hello there beautiful | vicki boutin

Hi there, i am back again and I have a fun new layout to share. I have a thing for layered paper pieces and so I decided to go with a wonky and messy square today. The colors in the Field Notes Collection are awesome, I am scrapping a picture from my hubby today, but I grabbed the soft pinks and yellows. I really don´t mind to scrap my boy photos with girly stuff.

I started this Layout with a gessoed sheet of the Foundation paper, Stencils, Iridescent Glaze and the Art Crayons. I guess you already know that these little Crayons are my favorite things to play with… did you know that you can mix them with the different glazes?

With that said, I scribbled some of the black Art Crayon on a piece of plastic and added Iridescent Glaze to it. Then I used the pallet knife to mix them together. You´ll get a beautiful shade of grey with a lot of shimmer in it. Just beautiful!

I grabbed three different Stencils, from the new Release, and started to add the Iridescent grey on the Paper. I used my pallet knife for it. I started with some circles in one corner, some hearts and some flowers were added too. I let enough space between the shapes because I knew I wanted to color the foundation paper around them too.

Once everything was dry I grabbed some more Art Crayons and some flowers from the Icon pack as my color guide. So I started to mix the Art Crayons together until I was happy with the shades I created.

I added a lot of water around the dried glaze and started to bring the Art Crayons pigment into it. I added a few layers of the colors, because I wanted to have a messy watercolor look. You´ll get that look/effect when you let each layer dry completely. I played with the water and the Art Crayons… until I was totally happy.

Then I went ahead and used a square paper as a template. I cut the paper I created in wonky triangles and added some of the patterned papers from the 12×12 Paper pad too. I really love how this turned out, and yes, they are wonky and not straight, but that was exactly the look I wanted. I also added four layers of tissue paper to each of the triangles and stitched them together.

Once I was done with the stitching part I started to look to other embellishments I wanted to use. I grabbed some flowers, butterflies and stickers. But I also stamped some leaves on some matching patterned papers. Fussy cut them out and added them to the mix of elements. I really love this tone on tone thing. You can never go wrong with that.

I laid everything on another sheet of the foundation paper and after I was totally sure about the placement I started to glue the things down. I used some 3D dots for more dimension and I also ruffled up the edges from the messy triangles and flowers/leaves; just because I love the look of it.

I stapled some last chipboard stickers on the photo and placed my title on top of everything. I love how the black word pops off the page.

I hope you enjoyed this little how to and I hope even more that you´ll will get creative today too!
There is a process video up on my YouTube channel as well, have fun watching it.
Thanks for stopping by and I wish you all a great day

Hey Zebra | Vicki Boutin

Hey everyone, Jana here with you today. I had a little break because of some health issues and I am so happy to finally craft again! It´s a real nightmare when you can´t do what you really love, right?!

Today’s project is inspired by the new Junque Journal August Prompts… Vicki made a new set of activities for the next four weeks and they are fabulous; It´s more of mixing and trying new things.
I grabbed all six of the first week’s prompts. Pastel Colors, tool – bubble wrap, flowers, in the middle, color blocking, kraft and rose gold.

My supplies for today, Foundation Paper, Art Crayons, Acrylic Paints, Bubble Wrap, a Kraft tag, some white clouds, fussy cut flowers and some bits and pieces from the Icons and Frames Pack. The photo for today’s layout shows a Zebra, from a trip my hubby and the boys did in July (I couldn´t join them, but they send me a lot of photos)

I started with mixing my Acrylic pop colors with white paint, because the colors should be pastel I needed to calm them down. I also mixed some Art Crayons with white acrylic paint, this works great!
Before I started this project I had a look in the pattern papers and fussy cut some of the flowers out from the “picked for you” Paper and so I knew what kind of colors I wanted to use.

I grabbed the bubble wrap and pressed it into the wet acrylic paint, flipped it over and stamped it in the middle of the Foundation Paper. I love how this is looking and the acrylic paint dries pretty quickly.

After that first layer was dry I decided to add some stencil brush work. I mixed some Art Crayons together and applied it through the stencil with the big stencil brush on top of the bubble wrap stamping. It´s a nice tone on tone detail and I really like it.

To finish that background I decided to add some rose gold splatters. I watered the glaze down just a tiny bit, so much easier to get some nice small splatters. Another nice detail in the mix

I centered all my elements in the middle from the page. The big Kraft tag is the base for everything; I placed the photo on top of it and added two clouds to it. The flowers and DieCuts were placed around it to create a nice balanced scene. My journaling was written on a yellow label from the Frames Pack and to complete this project I scattered some epoxy dots from the Finishing Embellishments Pack.

I really had fun with this Layout and I hope you´ll like it too

happy 38

hello, happy friday (it´s the 13th – anyone scared or afraid?!)
i just wanted to share this fun layout i´ve made a few weeks ago. i turned 38 (yes, it´s true) and i am totall fine with that!
this layout was totally inspired by all of the mixed media and layered butterfly pages i´ve seen in the last weeks… Paige Evans and Missy Whidden… just to name two of them!

i used a cutfile from Paige Evans – Design ID #252982 – i just added more of them and made some of them a bit bigger… colored them with Vicki Boutins Watercolors and i also used some of Paige Evans patterned papers…

also tried my WRMK HappyJig tool for the first time, really like it!

there is a process video on my youtube channel, if you want to watch it – https://youtu.be/KhiU5EvHY2U

thanks for stopping by and happy weekend to all of you

finally | vicki boutin

Hi and hello everyone, Jana here with you today. Sharing a new fun Layout for Vicki’s Mixed Media Makers! I used different techniques on this Project. Painting, kissing, splattering with self-made mist (acrylic color with water), used the Stencil Brush and the Art Crayons and stamping with cardboard – so much fun!

I started, as always, with a sheet of the 12×12 Foundation Paper. I had the plan to add a lot of water and Watercolors to it, and I know that this paper will handle all that without curling up or something like that. I sprayed water on the paper and added color to it, added water and color to a little plastic plate and let all of the color run/splatter onto the paper. I really love how this looks and the mixed blue is just awesome.

I had some great cardboard in my stash; it looks like a riffled one. I wanted to add another layer of color and texture. So I grabbed some Color Pop Acrylic Paint Set 2, a brayer (to get a thin layer of the color on a piece of plastic) and the piece of cardboard which I used as a stamp here. This looks so fun and worked perfectly. I also added some of my self-made mist.

I wanted more layers and so I decided to use the Art Crayons #2 Cool, a Stencil and the Stencil Brushes. This is one of my favorite techniques. You can´t go wrong or mess this up. Just scribble down some of the Art Crayon on a piece of plastic, grab the pigment/color with the brush and rub it through the stencil. Works best with small circular movements. The leftover Crayons were mixed with water and kissed on the paper too.

This is how my finished background looks and let me tell you, I really have a thing for blues and greens right now. I started with a 12×12 sheet but during the process of making this page I re-sized it to 9×12 – it is my favorite size!

I´ve scrapped a picture from my oldest son. We went to the orthodontist last week and they removed his upper braces. He was so happy about it and he has so beautiful teeth now and look at his smile. Because of the bright and busy background I only used a handful of elements. Most of them in black and white, mixed with some black tangled thread – love it!

I grabbed one of the Markers to add some journaling and I used some of the stamped lines for it. You can write over all of the paints with the Markers, so cool!

Because of all the colors and layers on the paper, the Cardstock Alpha Stickers didn´t want to hold, so I stitched them down with my sewing machine.

I also have a little process video for you to watch.

Junque Journal Vol.2 | Vicki Boutin

Hi and hello, welcome back, Jana here with some new pages for my Junque Journal. I was very sick (was fighting the flu/cold for the second time this year) and I need to come back to my normal crafting routine. I am still exhausted and tired from being sick and so I picked a quick and easy project this time – some pages in my Junque Journal, some colors, some papers and just some fun!

I picked some things I wanted to use, found that giant letter stencil in my stash and I am so happy about it! Really love to use it. Some leftover stars from one of my previous projects and for sure some of Vicki´s Mixed Media Products…

I started with one sheet of the Watercolor Refills for my first and the new Watercolors. I added a lot of water to the paper, because I wanted to give the watercolors a lot of room to flow. I really love how easy that is, just added more color or water as needed. Just beautiful and I love to watch it…

I also added some Art Crayons to the Watercolors and once everything was dry I grabbed some white Gesso and a Stencil for another Layer and texture. I really love how the white looks on the blue! The photo shows me, after a long busy and totally crazy first day at the creative world, and I was so tired I couldn´t move at all… so, because of the sleeping selfie I decided to add some stars to the mix. And I don´t even care about wet gesso, I just pressed the stars into it and added some staples to get them in place! It´s a mess, but a beautiful mess, right?!

Chipboard Thicker were used for the title and stitched down onto the photo. I grabbed a white and a black pen for my final touches – some journaling in a unreadable way and some scribbled lines. Really love how this is looking

The second page is a filler page, without any photos or text, just some awesome techniques and colors. I used the leftover watercolors here and colored the whole page in blue.

The next step and next layer, Art Crayons through the letter stencil. I used the Big Brush for that. I really love to add the Art Crayons dry to a page. I started with a light blue and ended in a grey/black – a little color gradient effect – turns out great!

I added some water to the leftover Art Crayons on the plastic and kissed the paper with it. So I am having a messy dirty edge now and I don´t wanted to waste any color. I also grabbed the new Circle Stamp and Dies Set and added some images in black. A black Start outline and some white Gesso splatters and I am done. Oh no, wait… I also added some scribbled details to some of the letters. I really love how this turned out.

I glued the pages together and added them to my Junque Journal. I really like how they turned out and I am really happy that I started this Journal.

All the Love | Double Page | Vicki Boutin

Hi and Hello, Jana back again with a new Project for you. Vicki asked for a Double Page, or she mentioned that she would love to see one… here I am! With a 9×12 Double Page and let me tell you this is the second one I´ve ever created.  So this is not my usual size and it was a bit tricky, but I made it and I really love it!

I started with my favorite Paper, the Foundation Paper, and colors. I got the new Watercolors and I could not wait to use them for the first time. The colors are so rich and vibrant and you only need a tiny bit of the colors and some water. So much fun!

I used a brayer for the first time too. Such a fun tool… I painted some watercolors on my gessoed Paper and went over it with the brayer, the effect is just awesome. I added colors on both papers – I also have taken care that I have color in the middle of both papers (the side where they meet) so that everyone will know that they belong to one project. Hope you know what I mean

I mixed some blue and green together, more than one layer. Grabbed a stencil and the big Art Crayon Brush (and for sure some Art Crayons) played with them… used them dry and with a touch of water. The Image is changing so much when you add some water….  And some gold Glaze on top of it. I used one of the Stencils for the Gold and I am always so happy about the results. It is so easy but so beautiful

Once the Background was dry I started to build up my Element cluster and for that I used the Ephemera Icons and the Frames pack. Just grabbed some pieces and layered them behind my Photos. I also added some doilies from my stash. Stapled them together, used different adhesives and just had fun.

Here is my finished Layout…

I was not thinking too much about it… it´s all about the layering! I love to use a lot of things behind my photos just for more dimensions.  the butterflies have been added to lighten the color areas slightly…

This little tired Baby on the photos is my little one, just a few days old! I so love the photos!!

The journaling is about the fact that we needed to wait for him for quite a while and that we enjoyed the first week so much. We ignored a lot just to watch and kiss him… I miss this time!

Thanks you for stopping by and I really hope you like my page… and if you want to watch my process – please click here for my process video

sweet – diy paper elements | vicki boutin

Hi everyone, Jana back again with a new Layout for you. I had such a great time playing with all the different Vicki Boutin Medias. It was last week when I could not get to sleep, so I sat down on my table and started to add colors to a big piece of Cardstock. I started with the Color Pop Acrylic Paint Set 3, just added the color to the paper with a big brush and a brayer.

The next layer was some Art Crayons, mixed with Water. I used the “kissing” technique and also used the Art Crayons for splattering. Then I grabbed some Iridescent Glaze and mixed in some black slices from the Art Crayons – the result is stunning, a deep sparkling grey, love it! I added the Glaze through a stencil but also smutched it on the Layers with a pallet knife. The last Layers are some stamps! I used the Color Wheel Pigment Ink Pads – Cool Tones and some Black Ink for stamping.

So much FUN on one paper, sadly to say that I did NOT took any pictures from the finished paper before I run it through my Big Shot to get out the Stars!! But here you can see the Paper with the star holes in it… I already have some ideas to use the leftover paper! Love it!
I wanted to create some DIY paper elements and decided to get a lot of stars from different papers (Tissue paper, Vellum and black Cardstock. But also some VB “All the Good Things” patterned papers) in different sizes. I sewed the different layers together and I’m totally thrilled how it looks!

But I wanted to use them on a Layout so; let´s have a look on that!

I started with the white Foundation Paper and some Art Crayons (#2 cool) – scribbled them on some plastic, added a touch of water and “kissed” the paper. But this time I just added it in small doses. Because I knew I wanted to add a lot of the stars and they are the Highlight on my page, no big mixed media background needed!

Next to the stars I only added one photo, some Journaling (on small vellum stripes), a title (Foam Thickers) and some Enamel Dots (finishing Elements). No more patterned Paper or big Elements here. I am so happy about this Page!
At the end I decided to add some small black paint splashes over the Layout. I am so in LOVE!

Shine On – Watercolor Sticker | Vicki Boutin

Hi and hello, I am so happy to share a new Layout with you. Today’s page is all about meeting creative people and using watercolor stickers combined with Art Crayons! YAY!
I started with the white Foundation Paper and my favorite Art Crayons!

I picked some colors from Set 1 and Set 2… scribbled the Art Crayons on some plastic and added Water. I really love to have the Art Crayons watered down so that I can use them like Watercolors. I “kissed” the paper with the plastic. I wanted to have three layers of different colors so, get sure every layer is dry, otherwise you´ll get a ugly mix of beautiful colors… but this is not a big deal, I don’t used a lot of water so the drying time is not long.
Here you can see the awesome colors behind the Elements… I also added some splatters! The watercolor stickers are another favorite from me. Today I wanted to use some dark blue and purple for the flowers, because of the blue paper I’ve picked for my title.

In the photos you can see me and some lovely ladies I’ve met on the CreativeWorld back in January. It is one of the best things in the world to meet people you´re only knowing from the social medias. You can talk about new trends, new tools and what’s in store. At a fair, it’s the most beautiful thing besides all the other things that you can see and admire.

I was at the Booth from We R Memory Keepers/American Crafts and had the best of time! I had the chance to play with some Vicki Boutin Goodies and show the visitors how to use them or what you can do with them in general. Just awesome and so much fun… of course!
But let´s talk about the Layout again. I used a lot of bright colors but worked with B/W pictures and a few touches of black here and there.

The tangled Thread behind the elements is just for another pop of color or a touch of black. I really LOVE how that looks and you can never go wrong with some thread on your projects!

Some gold glitter foam words for the second part of my title… labels, number stickers and brush lettering names and my page is complete. I am really happy about how it turned out. The colors – oh my, I am in LOVE!
